Having lived in and raised a family in Coral Springs for the last 25 years, Shawn cannot think of a better way to give back than to serve as your commissioner. As a leader in our community, Shawn understands that building lasting relationships happens one day at a time.
Currently, Shawn serves as the Director of Athletics and Student Activities for the School Board of Broward County. Through this role, Shawn has built meaningful connections with other community leaders across the county in order to provide high quality athletics programming and scholarship opportunities to public school students in our city. Prior to this, Shawn was the beloved Principal of J.P. Taravella High School in Coral Springs for 14 years, where he built lasting relationships with families in Coral Springs. During his tenure, Shawn advocated for facilities to be repaired and lobbied for funding new buildings to accommodate increased student enrollments. With his deep ties to our community, Shawn developed partnerships with businesses and communities to provide school to work progress in order to improve employment outcomes for underserved student populations.
Shawn is a past President of the Broward Principals’ and Assistants’ Association becoming the first president in the chapter’s history to serve two terms. As President, Shawn facilitated the change to better serve Broward schools and was instrumental in employee placements and salary negotiations.
Through years of service, Shawn knows firsthand that successful leadership in the city requires thoughtful collaboration between residents, city government, the County Commission, and legislators. Shawn’s background makes him uniquely qualified to work with relevant partners to improve school safety, improve city infrastructure, and promote smart economic growth.
